Default 2000 Civic LX Steering Knocks sometimes, what is it?

I just bought a Civix LX 2000 and have a couple of issues to work out. first one was the oil pan which I already asked on another post and this steering issue. Steering operates perfect, no lost motion or anything, perfect. I do hear a knocking noise though mostly when turning the wheel to the left at low speed. It knocks just when the wheel is initially turned, it's not continual. It also has a knocking sound when the car is off turning the wheel side to side. I have friends who have the same model and theirs doesn't make the noise as loud although they do make some noise. Is the steering rack out of adjustment? I saw the adjustment sequence in the manual. Thanks

I would check my front axles to make sure they are ok and not causing the noise. If that is not it, I would recommend takeing it to a front end shop and having it looked at.

humm...this probably isent the anser, but i no on my 2000 civic you can here a noise when you turn because the wires on the LED for the alarm are rubbing against the stearing wheel

Might be your rack and pinion. I had a friend's car steer fine, its just that every now and then his car would knock then it would instantly pull to one side.
