2000 civic speedometer

Default 2000 civic speedometer

i was wondering what the problem is when my speedo bounces around and doesnt seem to be reading the correct speed. also how do i go about resetting the cel? thanx for any replies.

Check the CEL first before clearing it, other than that check the connection on you speed sensor which attached to the transmission

Check if the odometer always works properly. That helps to tell if it's the sensor or the speedometer / odometer head in the cluster. Like the other guy said, use an OBDII scanner and read the ECU codes to see if the speed sensor code is in there.

i changed the speed sensor but the speedo is off quite a bit. it reads faster than the car is actually going

I own a 2000 Civic HX and have always noticed my speedometer reads 5 MPH faster than actual speed (I noticed it when passing the radar stations on certain highways; also checked it with handheld RADAR). Now, the speedometer is acting up as mentioned by other members...drops to zero and back to actual speed sporadically. Will start by checking connection at transmission since the C.E.L. has not activated.
