2000 EX question
#12
Hey Ron thanks for the picture.
I now have the IAC out of the car, do I just clean the two ports on the back of the IAC or do I have to disassemble the valve to get it good and clean? I tried to reference the DIY about cleaning it but mine doesnt have the screen or round ports so I'm just curious if there is a specific part that I need to clean.
Thanks again

You don't need to disassemble the IACV. Just thoroughly clean the channel where air bypasses to the intake manifold with carburetor cleaner. The channel is likely covered with soot that may impede proper movement of the window that controls air flow.

It was covered in a fair amount of soot... hope it does the trick.

How long does a cleaning get you before you have to do it again? Will this eventually lead to the replacement of the IACV?
My Chevy Vortec is nortorious for clogging the EGR. I got away with cleaning it 7 or 8 times before it just wouldn't help and I was forced to purchase a new one.
Thanks again Ron

Glad to hear you found the fix. Replacing the PCV valve and using synthetic oil will greatly extend cleaning times. Under these conditions, you might never need to clean it again. You won't likely need to replace the IACV, unless it possibly throws a CEL code.
