Default 2001 CIVIC CODES P0118 AND P0740

I had my 2001 Honda Civic EX AT 77k miles checked at a local Hnoda dealer due to a check engine light that does not go off. They got the codes P0118- temp sensor and P0740 Transmission locks up problmes. They want to charge me $500 to replace the temp sensor and $2500 to replace the transmission as they do not open or repair it they only replace the entire thing. This seems to much for a Honda car with only 77k miles on it- anyone experienced these codes before? Any advce/suggestions?

Codes get stored for a long time so sometimes there is an old one from a temporary situation. So first off whenever you find more than one code you need to reset them all and drive until the check engine light comes on again. Then see which code repeated, that one will be related to the thing that needs to be fixed first. Most likely it will be the sensor. I believe if it's like the older models, the sensor is less than a $50 part and takes 15 minutes to replace. So $500 on that job is crazy.
