Default 2001 Civic Transmission issues...

My sister-in-law has an 01' Civic and her car just started not shifting and revving to high. I hooked it up to the scanner to read the codes and it has a P0740 TCC error and it said incorrect gear ratio. I found after searching that the trannys are common problems with these cars. My question is should I try and replace the solenoids or is the tranny shot?

She plans on trading the car in so I just need to get it running again so she can trade it in and get a new ride becasue putting a new tranny wouldn't be worth the money in the car.

How high is it revving? It shifts eventually, just not when it's supposed to, correct?

It will ride around at 5/5500k at about 25 mph. It won't really go more than 30 without redlining it. It doesn't shift until you let off the gas and even then it doesn't always shift.

It might not help, but the best thing to do with automatic transmissions is to start by draining and refilling the transmission fluid. You may have to do it a few times in a row to end up with (mostly) new fluid in the end, as fluid gets trapped in the torque converter and doesn't come out during a drain.

I will give that a try, but I am thinking it is something broken inside the TC now.

-Thanks!
