Not sure what you're talking about. If you're talking about not being able to shift into any gear with the car stopped and the engine running (but you can with the engine stopped), that means the clutch is not disengaging when you press the pedal. The usual reason for this is either all the fluid has leaked out, or the clutch master cylinder is bad. Clutch fluid is in a reservoir on the front of the firewall in front of the clutch pedal, next to the brake fluid.

the gear shifter moves into all slots, but the transmission seems to stay in neutral. the clutch reservoir is full.

When you put it in gear and attempt to drive off, does the speedometer go up even though the car is not moving? If that is the case, it's a problem with one of the axles such as a broken CV joint or the axle has become disengaged from the transmission.

Check for pressure buildup in the clutch by opening the bleeder bolt on the slave cylinder. If pressure comes out and the piston moves back, test drive like that it is a problem with the master cylinder. If that doesn't do anything, the transmission needs to come out to see-- either the clutch is completely worn out / blown or the transmission is bad.

all these other replys are good but before you go to taking your trans out.look under your car to make sure the arms that run from your shifter are still hooked up to it and to the trans.also check that the clutch wire that moves from the pedal to the slave cyl is hooked up and moving when you press your clutch in and out.also it could be the slave cyl,it self.
