I have a B18A1 dropped into an 89 honda civic. The oil was over filled and blew a head gasket seal (light came on at this point).
Replaced head gasket seals, sparks, main seal around engine.
replaced O2 sensor that was in front of cat. reset computer
I was told to put in oil cleaner, and run through a tank of gas. (did that)
Alternator then died, replaced that had to rip out master cylinder.
check engine went away for a while but then started coming back every so often. I checked the the spark plugs again (2 months later) and I noticed that they were pretty much toast, and again I replaced all of them. I was told to replace fuel filter, so I got the filter replaced, but a piece broke in the fuel line causing it to leak. replaced fuel line, replaced fuel filter again just to be safe.
put methanol cleaner into engine to clear any gunk out of the lines. reset computer. ALL GOOD but then my check engine light came back on 20 mins driving on the hwy.
*note* I am not puffing white or blue smoke out back
*note* CEL only comes on if car is started, shut off, and restarted within 20 mins. OR after 25 mins of driving it will come on. Just before the CEL comes on, the car feels like it will hesitates for a split second then comes back and CEL comes on. I do not lose any power at first, but I notice that when my subs kick in my dash lights fade more.
*note* after the car sits for a few hours or more the engine light will go out for a while.
PLEASE HELP ME I NEED TO PASS AIR CARE IN 2 DAYS AND I'M OUTTA TIME!!!
