problems passing air care
I'm trying to get my 92 civic si threw air care. I have done the o2 sensor, plugs, wire, cap, router, and timing belt. i did all that about a week ago and the idle keeps bouncing up and down why is that? what do i need to do to fix it and pass air care? the first time i went threw i failed the Hydro carbons max was 115 and car tested at 183. i took it in after i did all that stuff and it went up to 215.
1. Set spark timing with a timing light.
2. Adjust valve clearance. A valve too tight will cause misfiring particularly at idle.
3. If it's a California model with an EGR valve, clean out the EGR passages. The other-49 States model does not have an EGR system.
4. Make sure the engine warms up properly. If it doesn't reach normal operating temperature, ECU will stay in open loop and run rich (high HC and/or CO).
5. If still running rough at idle, disconnect fuel injectors one at a time to see if problem is isolated to one cylinder.
