Default 2008 4cyl Civic No overdrive

Hello All, hope you can help. Just started today. I have an Engine light on and the "D" in the gear selector also blinks. I seem to have lost overdrive, or what ever Honda calls its top gear on this car. I do not have an overdrive option switch or anything, the selector goes like this "1-2-D3-D". Car has 101,000. Notice it most on the highway. Doesn't have that final shift up that drops the RPMs down to what it would normally do. RPMS stay up in the 3500RPM rang instead of the usual drop down into the 2000 range once at cruising speed. It shifts up and down very smoothly and runs great, just doesn't have that last highest gear anymore. Does anyone know what's up? is it an expensive issue or something easy? I checked fluid level and seems good.
Thanks
Steve

You will need to have the code checked with a computer. The light blinks and overdrive is disabled whenever the transmission computer detects a problem. The cost of resolving the problem can vary widely.
