2008 LX - starts/runs fine, key buttons don't work
My problem doesn't match the other key remote/immobilizer issues I could find. I apologize if this is a duplicate and my search ability is lacking.
I bought the car yesterday. It sat for a upwards of a year and the battery was completely dead. The seller charged the battery before he sold the car. I received two keys with built-in lock/unlock/panic buttons (I didn't get a valet key). Both keys start the car fine. The green immobilizer key icon illuminates for a fraction of a second when starting the car. The red light near the speedo blinks when the car is locked from outside with the key. Everything seems to be working fine, except the buttons of both keys do nothing. I have checked the batteries, and replaced one of them. Is there a condition that could cause this other than both key remotes being faulty?

I thought I found the answer in a YouTube video, but it didn't work. In the short video, he did:
- Key to ON, press LOCK
- Key to ACC then ON, press LOCK
- Repeat previous step 2x more
- Press LOCK (leaving key in ON)
I just saw another video where he did a full key OFF to ON to OFF each time rather than OFF to ON to ACC, then to ON and ACC again.
I haven't tried that yet, but I noticed in that video that there's a red LED that lights up on the key when he presses a button. Neither of mine light up. I tried bending the contacts for the battery, but no change. Probably time for new keys.
