Default 2012 civic auto headlights

My '12 Honda Civic does NOT have auto headlights, but there is a setting to change the amount of time after shutting off the ignition, that the headlines go off. Can I keep the head light switch in the on position, since the headlights are set to go off 15 seconds after I turn off the ignition. I don't care that the headlights will be on during the day, but want to make sure that this will not run my battery down, after I get out of the car. With the headlight switch in the on position, after I shut off the ignition, and take out the keys, the headlight warning chime still sounds. Why would it do this, if it is set to turn the lights off in 15 seconds?
