Default 5 Speed replacing a 4 speed 91 hatch

I attached this question on another thred but got no response and thought I would try again, the information I was asking was kind of specific. I just got a '91 hf 4 speed Civic hatch and found a five speed in a '90 front wheel drive station wagon Civic. I don't see a problem but, does know anyone forsee a problem with this swap? Do I need to change the shift linkage, 4 speed to 5 speed? Is there anything at the shifter that would keep my 4 speed shifter from going into 5th gear when I get the new transmission in. On the previous thred I asked about gear ratios, some place on this site I found a breakdown of gear ratios for differant hatchback Civics but found nothing on station wagon transmissions. I was wondering if Honda put a HF or a DX transmission in the station wagon. Any help is appriciated. Thanks

direct bolt in...use any cable manual tranny from a D-series.

Thanks. Any clue as to the gear ratio. This great little car is used for gas milage, I drive quite a few miles to work. I'm guessing it's got a dx transmission as the hf has the highest rated gas milage. Thanks again

I think they put the low ratio transmission in the wagon because it's a heavier car. But the low ratio 5 speed is still going to be lower rpms on the highway than the 4 speed.

I pickup my 5 speed transmission from a salvage yard Tuesday for $200. Somday I'll find the gear ratio of this transmission. The information I found showed the DX and SI having the same gear ratio except for overdrive (5th gear), the DX has a high ratio 5th gear (runs at a lower RPM on the highway). Your right, whatever ratio 5 speed I put in this car it will be better on the highway than the 4 speed I have now.

http://www.phearable.net/tech/wiring/trannyspecs.html - look here for all the gear ratio info you may ever need on a civic.

Thanks for the link. I also found this, http://hondaswap.com/reference-mater...n-specs-29132/ but it doesn't list the stationwagon specificly. I'm sure it's the same as a DX. I'll just compare the turns on the input shaft to the axle turns.
