Default 6th gen and HX questions

All:

I am having a hard time locating a 5th gen Civic to replace my trusty steed that was totaled on New Year's Eve. Questions:

Are there any inherent problems with 6th gen Civics for which I should be wary?

How about 7th gen Civics?

What makes an "HX" get superior mileage? Weight? Gearing? Displacement?

Thanks for any help in my new quest.

The HX has a different engine that is completely optimized for mileage instead of power. Also the gearing may be different, not sure about that.

Most of us will recommend against a 7th gen because of the D17 powerplant. None of us are fans and the only swap option is K series. But as a daily driver a 7th gen is fine.

6th gens should still be somewhat plentiful. Civic HX's have a different engine (d16y5 vtec-e) and a different transmission (CVT). I keep hearing that CVT trannies die a lot sooner than others. HX's also have very light aluminum rims that everyone wants.

I thought the 6th gen. HX was available in both 5 speed manual or CVT automatic. The CVT was not used in any other model. So in other words all CVT's are HX's, but not all HX's are CVT.

And they do have nice wheels.
