87 CRX DX with fuel problems
I have an 87 CRX DX that runs great until you have to floor the thing . Then it starts bucking and hesitating and if I back out of the throttle and gently get back into the gas then it picks up and runs like a rocket. I have a friend that lives next door with the same car , so I took his complete ignition system , including the coil, distributor , and wires , installed them on my car. This made no change in my cars problem , so I know its not related to my ignition at all. I believe that there is a problem with my fuel pump or my fuel tank pick-up. If anybody has had this issue with their carburetor'd CRX , I would like to hear from you . thanx Eric
When you first floor it, it's running off of the gas already in the bowl. Weak fuel delivery would let it would run fast for a few seconds, then it would starve.
Having to press the pedal down slowly, but then it will run OK wide open, probably means the accelerator pump is not working.
Ah carbureators, it's hard to believe people get nostalgic over them. Good riddance I say.
