89 Civic engine blown questions
My 89 civic has been leaking oil for the last 2 years into the cylinders and the spark plug area.I've just been topping it up every couple of weeks and it has been fine so far. Today i was driving it up a mountain road (very steep) and the check engine light came on and there was a lot of black smoke behind the car. It still runs but very rough and very little power. Just wondering what I should do. I figure the car is worth about $1000 if the problem was fixed. Should i just junk the car or would it be cheap to fix? Fill me in on all the details. Thanks a lot.

RE: 89 Civic engine blown questions
Check the compression to confirm a blown engine. The engine may not be blown though, black smoke typically results from running too rich, for example the fuel pressure regulator, fuel injector, etc.
