Default 89 Civic Heater Blower Motor Replacement

Hello,
I have a 89 Honda Civic LX- the A/CHeater blower motordied. Tried pulling the old one out, but I can't seem to clear the floorboard. Looks like the whole section behind the glovebox needs to come out. Can anyone walk me through this?

I think the A/C box has to come out to do it properly, which is a pain because you need to recover and recharge the refrigerant. I did mine by taking the fan box loose and pulling it partway out with the A/C box still in place, but ended up cracking the dashboard so I wouldn't recommend it.

If there was just a way to reach the nut on top of the shaft and take the squirrel cage (or mouse house in my case) off, then I think the motor would drop right out without the blower wheel on it.
