'90 DX A/C Compressor will not turn on.
Hello everyone,
Thanks for all your help in the past. Great community!
Two weeks ago my blower motor died and I had to replace it. I got under the passenger side and took the glove box off, removed most wires/bolts from the evaporator and the blowing housing. Not a lot of room, but with the help of my uncle, I was able to get the motor and fan out and replace with a new one.
Put everything back, it all worked, and all speeds, all different air flow options, and inside/outside air. However, my A/C (which had previously worked and was repaired (new compressor put in) about 4 months ago) has not turned on since the blower motor has been replaced.
I checked the related fuses and they are all fine. The light to my AC will come on, but I do not hear the "rattling noise" of the compressor I usually do when it is turned on. I also looked under the hood with A/C selected to "on" and I do not see the compressor spinning.
So having messed with the ECU (we have to move it to try and get to the blower motor), the Evaporator, and the Blowing Housing, what do you think we might have done to cause the A/C to stop working? Or has it just died again? :[

Do the fans under the hood start when you press the button?
Yes -- Could be a problem with the wiring between the ECU and relay etc., or loss of refrigerant. Locate the pressure switch under the car near the front on the right side on the line. Unplug it and check continuity. If no continuity, you could have caused a leak working on the evaporator.
No -- Electrical problem for sure. Check that the sensor on the evaporator box is still plugged in. Check the A/C fuse under the hood.

And like I said before, I checked all related fuses, and they all appear to be good. So I guess it's either a wire issue or refrigerant. :\
EDIT: Apparently 1 fan is for the AC and the other is for the radiator. So I guess I understand what you're asking. And in that case, then the answer to your question is No. It does not seem that when I push the A/C button, that that Left Fan (if you're in the driver's seat) turns on. I'm going to recheck the evaporator sensor and hope that is it. But the fuses are good.

Both fans should come on immediately upon pressing the A/C button. On a 1990 the condenser is the full width of the car and should get both fans. But it will work somewhat with one fan, so you may have had that problem for a while.
Also when you press the button, the ECU should increase the idle speed slightly in anticipation of the compressor coming on and loading it down.
