91 Honda Civic Idle surge
Hey forum,
Ok will I used to have a 1993 civic with a dead cylinder. Well I picked up a 91 honda civic 1.5 4psd BASE or STANDARD as they call it. No air, ps, or pw/pdl. Its the stripped down version. I only use it to go back and forth to work about 120 miles a day. My Question to you is: When I start it up in the morning everything is ok. It drives just fine. At about 40 minutes later the idle is high and won't go down. Eventually it will go down later. (this happens after I have been on the highway a while and need to stop somewhere) Is there something I have to check or replace. Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks,
Brian

Either the throttle cable is binding, gunk in the throttle body, etc. or the idle air control valve is sticky. Pull on the throttle lever and make sure it is fully closed. If so, clean or replace the IACV. I think the one from the '93 will fit it if you still have it.
Hey thanks a lot mk. Do you have a picture on where it is or describe really well where it is. Yeah when I find it I will just swap it with the 93 one. Good Thinking.
I do appreciate it.
Thanks,
Brian

On the '91 with throttle body injection, it's on the top of the intake manifold, on the part that leads to the #1 cylinder. There are two bolts holding it on. It also has two small water lines on the side and an electrical plug on the end. On the sequential injection car it will be on the back of the throttle body.
Looking at both of my cars ('91 and '95) now I see at first glance they look the same, but they different in the spacing of the bolts and the placement of the water lines. Not going to swap.
