Default 93 DX Heater core removal in process

I am currently in the process of removing my heater core, and have reached a snag. I am having a difficult time removing the heater box assy (pictured on the left side and close-up). Can anyone provide any instruction? I don't think I have missed any bolts or screws, but it almost feels like I have. When I try to remove the middle assy, it feels as if the part on the back side is attached to the firewall. Please help!

Thanks,
Derek

Thanks. I actually just found those same pics from a post in 2004. I searched and searched on here before I posted. I am going out now to look for the nut on the engine side of the firewall. Can you tell me what the box assy is in the middle? Is that the A/C Evaporator?

I believe the evaporator is to the right of the heater assembly and to the left of the blower motor.

The smaller box to the right is the evaporator. You should be able to remove the heater box without disturbing the evaporator. Do not try to disconnect the evaporator lines under the hood (behind the battery) because they contain refrigerant under pressure.

So I was able to remove the heater box, with the evaporator in place. Although I'm not exactly sure how I'm going to get the damn thing back in. Anyway, during the process of fitting my new core in the heater box, I had to slightly reshape the tubes, which created some stress cracks where they aresoldered. I applied some soapy water, pluged one side and blew threw the other. I was unable to detect any leaks on either side. But given the time required to access the core, I will be getting a new one tomorrow, free replacement. I hope to have everything put together by sundown tomorrow. I have been dreading this job for weeks, and the dread has been justified up to this point.

I have a 93 LX that's gonna need the same repair. I'm glad to have a second car to drive. Not to fond of pulling the dash. And all the warnings about the SRS got me worried. But it has to be done, cuz I'm not sticking with my funnel, hot glued to a plastic bottle and tucked under the floor mat any longer. It's a good temp fix though to keep your carpet dry! LOL ghetto! :P
