Default 93 honda civic burnt plug on top of transmission?

My wife drives a 93 honda civic to work since she has a long commute. The other day she noticed a little smoke from under the hood and then it cut off. The car will try to turn over but will not fire. I was peeking around under the hood and trouble shooting when I came across a plug on the top of the transmission on the passenger side. The plug is melted and the wires coming off the plug are melted in half. Does anyone have any idea what this plug may be. I removed the plug and took a picture to possibly help. Its an automatic also. Thanks for your help

I figured it out, its the speed sensor. Would this cause the car to not fire, I really hope so. It just seems like its not getting any spark or fuel. We will see I just ordered the part off ebay.

that is a speed sensor and i have no idea why that would burn like that ...CHECK ALL YOUR WIRING to see if anymore wires are burnt also check your fuses...

You don't need the speed sensor for the engine to run, but the circuit that powers it, I think, also powers some critical stuff. With the wires melted and burnt like that I'd be concerned that someone may have put in a fuse that is too large or bypassed it with tinfoil.
