94 Civic DX wont start when hot outside...
hey guys i need help in diagnosing this problem. my car is a 94 Civic DX all stock...it does not want to start when its hot outside. it cranks but it wont run. i replaced the spark plugs, wires, cap, rotor, air filter, PCV valve. i thought it was just the filter because it was so clogged but it still didnt start. im looking into replacing the fuel filter and/or fuel pump as that maybe the cause of the problem and also trying to check out the ignition coil if its bad. but i need some of the honda guys inputs because the fuel pumps on hondas dont really give up from what i heard.
not sure on the cure but you could look on the internet and it would give you common ways to combat vapor lock. cause what happens is your gas evaporates cause its getting so hot and literally your car tries to run on Fumes and cant!
When you turn the ignition key on, the fuel pump should come on momentarily to purge the system. This shold take care of vapor lock issue. Upon engine start, the pump come on and keep running till turned off.
I would listen for the pump sound as I turn the key on slowly. If there is no sound, then I would locate the pump and hot wire the pump to see if it turns. If the pump is ok then the system is at fault........
This is how I troubleshooted on my 924S a few years back. I think Hondas have similar system. If not, sorry!
