Default 94 Civic EX Wont Start

My sons 94 Civic died at the store this afternoon. getting good fuel at the filter. If I hold the key on it will start to run then dies off. I noticed none of the warning lights on the dash come on and the fuel gauge doesn't move when I shut off the car. Added some gas to insure it wasn't empty. Any help would be great!

If you turn the key to ON(II), does the CEL or oil pressure light illuminate?

You might want to check the ignition switch.

No dash lights come on. And fuel gauge needle doesnt move. Is the ignition switch something I can change out fairly easily?

Maybe it'd be best to discuss after you test the switch.

I plan on testing the switch in the morning. The diagram says I need to use a short connector if messing with the SRS. Do I need to do this and is it a special tool?
Thanks for all your info.

The red short connector is located at the rear of the access panel:
