Default 95 civic air mixer cable issues

Hello all! Hope everyone is doing well. I have a 95 civic sx which was a variant sold here in Pakistan. I am having some trouble diagnosing an issue. The temperature control unit works great but the adjusting level seemed a bit stiff. I was assuming its just dust and gunk built up that has made the sliding motion a bit difficult. Sprayed a bit of WD 40 on the inside and that still didn't help much. The movement on the sliding level is very smooth without the cable attached, at the arm on the underside of the dash and out at the valve. This leads me to suspect that the part of the cable that connects the sliding **** to the linkage behind the dash is the culprit. The cable cover seems to follow a gradual 90° turn from the slider arm to the linkage under the dash. Is if supposed to follow That curve? any tips on how I can get the climate control slider to work as smoothly as it did in 1995?

Best wishes,
Sam
