Default 95 EX Starting Problem

Hi Everyone!

I'm a n00b here but any help/ideas you have would be greatly appreciated!!

I have a '95 Civic EX (5 sp. of course) which has, in the past, ran just fine (even did a little auto cross with it!). Now it may or may not start. When it does start, it runs just fine. I think there is an electrical problem. One morning, it just wouldn't start, no clicking, nothing. The next day my husband and I were going to jump it, thinking it was just the battery. Out of habit I hopped in, put the key in and started the car. No problems and my husband still hadn't connected the cables. Drove it around a little bit, came back home and all was well. The next day my husband got stuck at work because the car just died on him. Turned out the parking lights were stuck on, even though the position was set to off. Tried restarting it a couple of times and it started fine but I couldn't get the lights to turn off. I unplugged the battery and about 2 weeks later (only because I didn't have time sooner), I hooked the battery back up and the light problem seemed to be resolved but it wouldn't start even though I could fool around with the lights. Figured the battery just discharged since it wasn't hooked up (doesn't seem logical, though). We got a bunch of snow recently, so we jumped the car to let it run for a while, get the battery and alternator charged up, so that, theoretically, it would be ready to go the next time we used it. Yeah.... So, I figured I'd just take it to the store (about a week later), and it wouldn't start, but there was enough power to turn the lights on.

So, since the problem seems to be random, I was wondering if anyone has any ideas. The battery is about two years old, and when we replaced it, we had the place test the alternator, too, just to be sure. I've had alternator problems in the past (different car) and I don't recall the lack of anything happening, or random things working or not working.

Fortunately we recently got an '05 EX (automatic, though - blech), so we weren't screwed on transportation. Maybe the old one is just jealous...

Anyway, thanks again, in advance for any ideas/help!

It might not be the starter or battery Ive heard about the "switch" in the clutch going bad almost like your not pushing the clutch all the way.
