Default '98 Civic EX engine light

So I posted a thread last week about my new (to me) '98 Civic EX having an exhaust leak. There is nothing coming out of the tailpipe but instead mid-car. So, the other day the engine light comes on. Im wondering if the lack of correct back pressure could/would cause this? I know, pull the code, but I don't live anywhere NEAR any place that can and its been like -10 here for the past week so Im not spending time in the driveway working on it.

Yes, the lack of back pressure can throw a code.

If the car was sitting for a long time, maybe a rodent built a nest in your exhaust?

Thanks, I appreciate the info. It wasn't sitting, my FIL's girlfriend was driving it, but the exhaust was rotting somewhere. They had it in the garage for break work this summer and the garage said the exhaust was rotting and would need to be replaced soon. If it wasn't so damn cold out here Id fix it, but this weather is not conducive to me fixing it in the driveway. lol
