Default 98 civic maitenence needed

There is this red thing that says maitenence needed. At one point it was green.

It turns color by rotating like the mileage numbers do.

What would cause this? I think it is different than the check engine light.

Yea, it is in fact connected to your odometer inside the cluster. It turns yellow just before 7500 miles, and red after 7500 miles. You can reset it by pushing your key into the little slot next to it. Same as resetting your trip meter, but you have to use your key. Its just there to remind you that you should probably at least check everything over and make sure there aren't any leaks and/or low fluids etc.

It is a myth that you need to change your oil on your car every 3K. However, this is true for older cars.

For relatively newer cars it is 5k.
