Default 98 lx civic manual starting issues

i recently bought this as my first car
unfortunately as i was learning to drive it i experienced a few starting issues

i drove it around for about 10 mins. parked it. went to start it 5 mins later and it would turn over but no start. even applying a bit of gas. i let it sit over night. and it started right up no problem.

today i replaced the spark plugs and it starts a lot faster and just feels better. drove it about 10 mins. parked it. tried to start it and it doesnt turn over anymore, all it does is *click*.

i dont want to start replacing things and drain my bank account. id like to try the least expensive troubleshooting first.

lmk what you guys think

that part about the car not cranking when you turn it over and that awful *click* when you turn the key reminds me of my old volvo. the fact that it started up the next day tells me it might be a problem with either the starter or your cooling system. not sure if 6th gens had a feature where you couldn't start it if it was over a certain temp, but i'd go to a parts yard and buy a new starter for sure. you can find them for maybe 15-20 dollars depending on where you're located. if it starts drive it for a bit and keep your eye on the temp gauge. if it goes over halfway you have a much bigger problem on your hands.
