Default 99 Civic Brakes...Help/Suggestion Needed

Gurus,
I have a 99 Civic [Special Edition - Value Pack]. I guess this a DX model with 120K miles on it.
Recently there was a sound coming from passenger rear, and this was traced to a broken metal piece in the rear brake. Got the metal piece out and no more sound. I check w/ the shop and they said my brakes are good. The drums or rotors [whatever it is called] is rusted.

Question on what I need to get it done on my Front and Rear brake system:
I haven't gotten done any brake work in the last 60K miles or so. If I want to get a piece of mind and at the same time not expose my ignorance to the shop owenr[so as not to rip me off], I need your help here.

For my 99 Civic, what's needed on the Front [Pads, drums, rotors, discs] and what's needed on the Back[Pads, drums, rotors, discs]. If you could tell me with my model I have on what on the Front is valid and what on the back is valid, I can get it done accordingly.

Sorry for my ignorance and I needed you guyz to educate me here a little bit on my brakes system.

Thanks a ton.

you have disc brakes (rotors, calipers, and pads) on the front and drums on the back. a little rust on the drum is normal.

Is there any site that you can direct me to, which would give me details if I input my year/make/model such as what you explained to me? Thanks

you mean like details of what the brake looks like inside of it and how all the specific parts work? if so, the best thing would probably be to go buy a repair manual for your car from the auto parts store like a haynes manual. it'll have diagrams and all sorts of stuff on it. plus the manual will come in handy in the future for something else too.
