The vehicle speed sensor (VSS) sits atop the transmission and should be visible and accessible.

On my 97 Civic, the battery is near the firewall on the passenger side under the hood. Stand near the battery and face the engine. Look past the battery and downward toward the transmission. The VSS sticks up from the top of the transmission and has a wire harness attached to it.

You would need to remove the VSS to see whether the manufacturer name is printed on it. I believe this involves removal of the electrical connector and one bolt. You then carefully lift it out of the transmission. Don't let any debris fall into the hole to the transmission.
