Default About the door lock tab on driver's side...

Hi guys,

I just got a new 2010 Honda DX-A today (no power locks) and I have a question about the manual door lock tab on the driver's side.

All the doors except the driver's side door can be locked by simply pulling the lock tab out. The lock tab on the driver's side door can not be pulled out when the driver's side door is open, it can only be pulled out when the door is closed. (So there are only 2 ways to lock the driver's side door -
(1) use the key to lock it from outside (2) close the driver's side door and pull the lock tab out from inside.)

Is this the intended manual lock mechanism? I am pretty sure this is how its supposed to work, but just wanna confirm it. Thanks.

It's an intentional lock mechanism that has been included on Civics since at least 1992. It's to help prevent you from locking your keys in the car. It forces you to turn the key outside (which should automatically lock all doors) or use your keyless entry (which does the same).

I would try holding the ext. door handle up when the door is open and then lock it.

Yes if it works like the older models, you would push the lock tab down with the door open, then hold the outside handle up while closing the door.
