Default AC not blowing cold air electrical I think

[&:]I have a 2000 Civic 5 speed with 168,000 miles. My AC isn't blowing cold air. My mechanic said it was an electrical problem, becausemy compressor wasn't kicking on. It's crazy because sometimes it blows cold air sometimes it doesn't. Has anyone else exprienced this problem? I checked for recalls the only thing I've seen is an electrical problem that has to do with the iginition. HELP!!!![X(]

When it works sometimes and other times not the first thing to check is the gap on the compressor clutch plate. When the gap is too wide even if the clutch has power it will not pull in.

Also if the engine idle speed increases and the condenser fan starts when you press the A/C button but the compressor doesn't, that's further evidence it could be a clutch problem. If those things don't happen it's something else.

Check the middle wire (Biggest of the3)that goes down to the compressor. You should have +12 volts when your A/C switch is on. If you have power and the clutch isn't kicking on, it's probably your clutch. If no power, could be a relay, fuse, switch or sensor.

To be honest there isnt coolant in the a/c system it is refered to as refrigerant or freon also it is a low pressure switch that opens the switch for the compressor switch in the case of a large loss of refrigerant and you really cant replace a compressor clutch anymore because it costs less to have the system recovered and replace the compressor itself
