air bag deployed by itself

air bag deployed by itself
I'm looking to purchase a 96 Civic HX (hi fuel economy?). Looks real sharp, body/paint.interior clean, 215,000 hiway miles but it needs a steering wheel airbag. I'm assuming I need the whole steering wheel? Is that something that needs to be done by a certified mechanic, or can I get a junk yard steering wheel and (hopefully) put it in myself? Looks like it would be a great car for son(styled alloy Honda 5 or 6 spoke rims, spoiler, 2 door 5 speed) $2700 or BO and has been there for a good couple weeks. The steering wheel air bag has me concerned. I've done a ton of work on his 95DX but it is time to put thatsmoker out to pasture, so I don't mind trying to get a good deal if itthe problemsomething in my range of abilities. Any thoughts out there?

This should help:

92-95 civics are similar to 96-00
Note: You are just replacing the airbag, so you don't have to remove the steering wheel.

Whoa whoa don't buy it for 100 bucks! That guy is just preying on you!! Check eBay first to get a 96-00 civic airbag. The 92-95 civic airbag may work, but the steering wheels are different, so you would need the steering wheel too.

lmao.. i think i bought this car.Th car needs alot other than that. I got it just because its rare and the body and interior are mint. i orderd last night on ebay, oxygen sensor, spark plug wiers, a kit that comes with water pump, timing belt, a/c belt, p/c belt. Im spending about 3k on it. Im goitting racing streeing wheel, no ar bag just horn. The check engine light came on when driving it home, im taking it to advance auto to see what thats all about. im also geting new breaks and rotors. Its needs some TLC, i had to get it (RARE). im going to do a motor swap in the future. Also needs radiator and hoses. Im going to turn it into a show car.

If the bag really did "deploy by itself" (which is highly unusual) you should replace the control module too or it may decide to deploy the new one at random as well.
