Exclamation Alternator problems

Hi i am new to this forum and i did some searching looking for help with my prob but all i could find were posts about undercharging and lights dimming. I am new to hondas and imports

So here is my problem i just bought a 93 1.6l civic and the alt was putting out 20v !!!!! I know it was the v/r cause it would vary from 14v at idle then with a load(heater, lights,ac,) the voltage would rise with each. now i went to the junkyard and pulled a alt and got it tested at auto zone and it passed. SO i put in on and now my alt is charging at 15-17v and i know it is less than 20v but that is still to high for me to be comfortable with. you can see corrosion damage from the last batt from blowing. If i can get any input it would be much appreciated

Thanks

what model is your civic and what model was the one in the junkyard, if its a ex/si the alternatorhas a higher amp than the dx/cx/lx models, i suggest cleaning all yourconnections and grounds and buying a new alternator,

The alternator senses the voltage at the small I wire (black and yellow I think). It will crank out power until the votage sensed there is 14 volts or so. So if there is a drop in the car system between the battery and that wire, the alternator will overvolt the battery trying to get the sensed voltage up.

But I would agree with 94 it's also possible you may have just gotten another bad regulator. The guy at the parts store may not have paid close attention to the exact voltage, you could take them both back there and test them again.

ALright i git a new alt and the same problem exsists i shecked again to make sure the fuses were good in the dash fuse board and found a few wires hanging and it looks like someone tried to splice them whit wire crimps. There are two sets GRN/RED-GRN/WHT
and the other set is GRN/BLU-B. Also there is a brown wire under the floor mat

i just checked the blk/yel wire and it has 35.9 resistance is that wire just supposed to be a ground or is it going to the pcm. the resistance should be under 1 ohm right? two of the other wires showed no continuity and the other one showed 24.1 ohms

Black and yellow wire at the alternator should have battery voltage with the key on. It should be very close to the same voltage that is at the battery.

Also make sure that the battery light on the dash works. I'm not sure here but in some cars it is an important part of the circuit.

Any idea????
I have no wiring diagram to see which pin it goes to and i remove the block to look for any altered wires or empty connectors but i found nothing none of them have a ground
