Default Anti-lock brakes

Are the 2004 Civic LXs equipped with anti-lock brakes? If so, the ABS on my 04 LX isn't working.

No lights on in the dash. Brakes function normally. Not sure if they ever worked since this is only the second winter we've owned the car. My wife drove it last winter.

If it does have ABS, where should I start troubleshooting?

If you do have ABS, there will be a red "ABS" light on the dash. It should come on for a short time and then go out every time you start the car. If the light does that you can be fairly confident that the system is working properly.

Based on this site: http://consumerguideauto.howstuffwor...da-civic-5.htm, the 2004 LX is not equipped with ABS.

"ABS is standard for EXs, the Hybrid, and Si, and unavailable otherwise."

I guess my question is answered....

Still very surprising that a Honda of all vehicles wouldn't have ABS as standard equipment. Oh well, I still love the car and love the reliability even more!

Honda made those changes about 2 years ago to make all of their cars safer. Today, even the DX has anti-lock brakes standard. If you go to their website and click on safety tab under specs, you will find that every safety features are standard on all trims.

Yup, I did notice that. I guess I missed it by one year. Oh well.

I just have to remember they're not there. Back to the old-fashioned "pump the brakes" method!
