anti lock problems
I Just got a wicked price on a 2000 4 door V tec civic. I got it for just under $3000 cause buddy was gonna lose his car to the tow yard and whatever. Anyways when i got the car home and pulled the wheels off to check the car out he only had 1 pad on the left rear and 1 pad on the right rear(other words caliper was directly rubbing on the rear disk on each side). He was also missing on the front right wheel the 2 little skrews that hold your disk from moving. Anyways i replace all the pads and put the skrews in the front right disk but now when i'm slowing down when i'm almost stopped to completely stopped i can hear the engajing and disengaging of the abs and it totally feels like the brakes are grbbing and releasing but it sounds like total ****. I assume that the rotors should be checked out but is it only warped rotors causing this cause why then can i hear my abs? Also my ebrake light on the dash stays on how do i adjust this. One last thing the battyery was completely dead in the car so now i need a code for the radio since i got such a good deal buddy didn't give me the owners manual and stuff all i got is what i needed to transfer ownership so how do i get the code?? The car even has koni adjustable shocks all the way around i cant wait to get to sink a bit of money into it to make it really fly. Thanks
are you sure its the ABS your hearing? ..get the pads checked out, they are probably warrped, the ABS shouldnt engauge when you just putting on your brakes regularly, if your sure its the ABS i would get that checked out right away..you dont want to be braking and your ABS kicks in, and just to worn it..its really expensive, im not sure about the other things tho
Remember those two screws that hold the rotors in place that you put back in? Take them out. They have no purpose, they don't hold your rotor onto the hub. The tire/lugs does that. Those two screws are to hold the rotors onto the hub while the car is at the factory so the rotor doesn't fall off and hit someone in the head. If you leave them in, they will end up getting rusted and become a PITA to remove when you have to change your rotors in a couple of years. Also, there is a wheel with a bunch of teeth somwhere around the hub. There will be a sensor next to the wheel. If any of those teeth are broken, then the ABS system will think that one of your wheels is turning at a different speed than the other and engage. This could also be another cause of that problem.
