any ideas about oil leaking?
i have 97 ex with 106k miles on it leaking oil. i have to change oil altough it has still 1500 miles to change it. when i went to penzoil, they told me to change the seal between engine and transmission. do you have any idea how much it will cost?
i heard about a product that is put outside of the seal without taking it out. do u also have any idea of it?
thanks for ur help..

I recommend having the whole car checked out. There might be some other oil seals that need replacing, not just the tranny. Oil seals aren't that expensive, so I suggest changing the oil seal instead of just using sealants.
did you change the crush washer on the oil pan drain bolt when you did your oil change? The crush washers won't reseal after thier first use and need to be changed at every oil change. And like stated above have the entire engine checked for oil leaks.
Since it will cost you quite a few $$ for labor if the problem is really there, your best bet would be just to add some oil between changes for the time being. And when you get serious tranny or clutch problem, you will fix this one, too.
You might want to try a product called auto-rx www.auto-rx.com It apparently does wonders for some cars that have leaky seals. I heard about it on the web site www.bobistheoilguy.com It is an Ester based product that cleans the engine slowly as well as stops leaks around many seals. It does sound too good to be true, however after hearing about it on the www.bobistheoilguy.com forum I am under the impression that it is highly respected. The typical poster on this site is nuts about lubrication and what truly works best and their hobbies are reading used oil analysis results etc. I will be using it in the spring on my 93 Civic & 85 Toyota 4x4. Works better in the warmer months. It's been well below freezing lately here.
YMMV

the rear main seal is the seal between the crank and trannsmission.
i know my girlsfriends v6 accord was quoted at 750 bucks but it is a v6 and automatic
probbaly be at least 500 bucks laber and 15 bucks for the seal

Thats if you take it to HONDA. Ive got a local mech shop that does KILLER work, and their prices are great. They charge you according to how long it takes them, they dont look at a book to see "how long is should take" and charge u for that.
Try the Auto-rx product first - way cheaper than replacing seal. Many Oil techie gurus love this stuff. If it doesn't stop the leak you will mostlikley raise your compression and clean most of the deposits in your motor.
