Default ANYONE?? Knock Sensor

I have just replaced my engine on my 96 civic, turns out the guy who sold me the engine gave me a 91-95 engine for a civic. yea it fits, but the wiring is different.. the guy who changed the engine for me told me sumthing about the knock sensor that it needs on the bottom of the engine. he said he was going to find out for me if its possible to hook that up in some way. he said if its not possible that he needed to take the engine out and give it back to to the people who sold it to me.
i was wondering if you guys knew anything about this.

The older block will not have a place for the sensor to screw into. Well it does, but not quite. It is near the oil filter, slightly above and to the left (from the driver's perspective) of the filter. You will see there is a boss cast there but it is not threaded like the one on the original engine with the sensor was. I think that can be remedied with the proper sized metric tap.

Since there's an opportunity to return the engine, it should be driven a little to be sure it's OK and not burning oil, leaking head gasket, etc. You can drive without the knock sensor just that the CEL will be on, which causes the VTEC to be disabled, and don't drive too hard because there is no protection against knocking.

I understand the principle of the knock sensor, but I read a few posts on the Honda-tech forum, where some members claimed that the knock sensor was of little value. I don't have enough knowledge, however, to evaluate whether these statements were correct.

ok...yea i have 90 days to return the engine. so far its only been 3 weeks, since i purchased it.

so i can fix that problem with a proper sized metric tap?
sorry, but im not so familiar with those parts. they guy who installed the engine told me that the wiring doesnt match. he told me he didnt know too much about the sensors but that he was going to find out. so i should tell him about the proper sized metric tap? or what exactly should i tell him.

Your mechanic should have taken enough parts off your old engine, harnesses, sensors, manifolds, etc. so that the wiring matches up, except that there's no place for the knock sensor. It of course would've been easier to just drop the right engine in there to begin with.

Your ECU is calibrated for a 1.6 liter engine, running it with a 1.5 is not ideal. They did not put 1.5 VTECs in the 1996 and later so you can't simply swap the ECU. Really, if your'e just looking for a daily driver economy car, I think you should pull that thing and get a 1.6 in there. Otherwise you're in for a lot of tinkering.

yea thats exactly what he told me..he took all the parts he needed but at the end he told me theres no place for the knock sensor..
yea i know i would have saved me this.. i told the fukin guy he sent me the wrong one and he said "no my friend is a japan engine" *** dat guy!
so whats going to happend for say if he gets that problem fixed...will it mess up my car becuz of the ECU?
what do you mean by tinkering?

It sounds like, in the grand scheme of things, this is the best advice that you have received.
