There will ALWAYS be stuff on the magnet, but the "burned" fluid is a bad sign.

he is talking about the grey material on the magnet. a bad sign is burnt fluid and/or metal shavings.

ok, so this car was totaled out and rearended and the trans had 60k on it. i drained the fluid it looked cleaner on the dibstick but it was dark red when drained and didn;'t smell burned. how do you drain the t.c and how do you remove the shift cable from behind the converter? their was little metal flakes w. grey color on the magnet but i didn't note any chunks in the fluid. is this one junk too? i think these cars are just peices of junk period! lol

It sounds like it should be OK. The only way to know for sure is to put it in a car and drive it. The seller has a guarantee on it, right?

The torque converter doesn't just slide out?
