Default The Belt or the Compressor..which one should come out?

I got a 92 Civic LX with 185,000 miles & Tonight I tried evacuating & charging my AC system but failed because there's a leak(freon) coming from the backside of my compressor. Also while I was charging the system the clutch come on for a few minutes & it sounded like it was making a slight scraping sound & I'm worried about it seizing up...even if I don't have the AC on.

I plan on getting another compressor from the junkyard & seeing what parts I can salvage from it...but that's a week from now.

My question is..Is it alright to just take the AC belt off in case the clutch seizes & gives the engine problems? Or do I need to take the whole clutch out?
This question is for right now..not next week when I plan to fix my Compressor.

Think about it... if the belt is off, there is no way the compressor can turn... so of course taking the belt off will take care of it.
