Default blinker switch problem

Can anyone tell me why my blinker switch worked for 6 months on my 97 civic DX ,then all of a sudden stopped working for nearly 3 months?
The weird part is, it started working just for one day last week, now it
doesn't work again. By not working, I mean you have to turn the lever off
manually.

To fix, you may need to replace just the turn signal switch or possibly the entire combination switch assembly:

Well, thanks so far guys. I tried to take the easy route out, but i still need to remove the steering wheel. I did find out that it isn't the turn signal switch. When I removed
the switch, I found the cam that hits the mechanism isn't turning either way to turn the switch off. Does anyone know if that is fixable or do you just need to replace the combination switch? Do you buy just the center part and add your exsisting switches to it?

The central part of the combination switch is bad, or possibly the steering clock spring.

You might be able to find the replacement part at a junkyard. Otherwise, check here.

Your not going to belive this, but I just went outside to put my panels back on, I turned the steering wheel and the cam mysteriously now turns with the wheel.
I applied some pressure to the cam while turning the wheel, and it is not loose. Everything is working fine................for now.
I'll keep you guys informed.
