Blower motor problems..
I am having some problems !
I bought my mb3 civic (british 5 door model) with a broken blower ( or h/c), the settings vary from 0-4, but only 0 and 4 work. So it's either off, or on MAX.
I was lucky enough to find a new potentiometer in a local scrapsale but alas. Same problem. New pot but only off and max. I haven't checked the inside of the pots yet,
but I was wondering if this could be anything else causing this ? I don't want to rush ordering a new pot if it turns out to be something else !

I'm looking at the diagram for the heating and air conditioning system here (for a 96' - 00' civic)and without getting too technical or over my head, the #4 setting does not go through, as what this diagram says, a set of resistors. It is a direct shot to the motor.The 1-3 setting go into the resistors (maybe the pot. you were talking about) The other contactfrom the motor (blu/wht wire)leads to the fuse/relay box under the hood; it is fuse #55 40Amps that leads into the relay. I don't know if you have looked at the relays but I think its worth a shot. I have the diagram for the US version, and I have only once heard of a 5 door civic before (there are so many cool cars the US doesn't get) so I don't know what the real differences between my sedan and yours would be. Even still, check the relay under the hood. It could be burnt out or sticking. Just a thought. I do recommend getting a diagram if the problem persists, as one switch in the system activates more than several items at once. Start with the relay before you go looking for loose connections.
P.S. the diagram for the 1998 and up integra blower motor is near identical to the civic's and also leads to an underhood fuse/relay box. Hope I helped.

If it has a resistor pack, it's going to be that. It's mounted in the top of the duct behind the glove compartment, has 2 screws and a 4-wire plug. The switch on the dash that you replaced sends the power thru different parts of the resistor to get different speeds. On speed 4, the resistor is bypassed.
