Bogging/sputtering at 1.7 RPM & check engine
 

i have a '99 Si.

recent maintenance in past month: oil change (synthetic) + induction service

now, at about 1.7-2.0 RPM, i guess you can say the engine bogs or sputters as if it's having trouble getting past that. i can get past it by applying more gas, and all is fine after 2.0 RPM. it's annoying when i'm cruising around a parking lot looking for a spot, or just basically accelerating into 1st slowly.

this happens sometime later in the day after i had driven for some time, so it doesn't happen immediately after i start the car, and the check engine indicator had been lit since the first experience of the bogging. the bogging does stop after i turn off the engine then restart, but then it eventually happens again.

but i'm not sure if this is the same issue as i really didn't understand.

i'm not very technical in automotive. i'm just a fan of hondas.

Before focusing on the IACV, do this test first:

1) Warm up the engine
2) Remove the air duct from the throttle body
3) Start the engine and let it idle
4) Use your finger to block the lower port hole leading to the IACV in the throttle body. The diagram below shows the upper port.
5) If the engine speed drops, clean or replace the IACV
6) If the engine speed does not drop, carefully check for leaks from all of the vacuum hoses/connections, as well as the throttle body and IM gaskets.

IACV had already been done. This actually started happening after doing some service to it.

pretty sure youre running into an issue like my friend.


guessing it's probably your IACV...and you might have a P505 code. if it is get a manual or take it to your local mechanic and have it diagnosed and reparied

Do the test described in Post #5 to see whether it points you to an intake air/vacuum leak.

im having the same type of problem with my 92 cx. Sputters below 2k rpm clears up past that. could the solution be the same?

It's quite possible. Dirty IACVs are a common age related issue.
