Default Brake Click Noise. Advice.

Hey, took my car in for an inspection. Wanted to see what people thought about things. Been driving my car around fine all year, there's some minor click noise, like 1 click when you press down the brake pedal and then 1 when you release it. They said the caliper service pads are sticking and wanted to replace front and back ones for a couple hundred. Does this sound legit? The click noise is like very subtle. They claim if I don't replace that stuff now it will cost me big time down the road when everything goes out and i have to replace the rotor. They also told me they want to do some hundred dollar fuel service where they clean the throttle plate assembly. I just told them I'd check back later. Don't got the cash to do that stuff just wanted to see what y'all thought.

Hmmm...is the clicking sound coming from the Shift Lever console? If not...Start the car..press the brake like normal & listen to where area the sound is coming from...Is it coming for the inside(interior) or outside? If from the outside, then what area outside?

Next time they say this, that & the 3rd needs to be replaced/serviced...Tell them to show you. If they don't show you then it's time to go(elsewhere).

BTW...What year is the civic? Is it Manual or Automatic?

its a 2004 Civic LX Sedan automatic. the click comes from the brake pedal when you press it down, but then there might be a non click noise under the shift lever console when you release the brake. Seems to come more from the interior than the outside, I'm not sure how the noise I'm hearing relates to calipers but what do I know.

I believe the clicking sound is regular, Usually when you press the brake it disengages the shift lever so you can shift into gear(N, R, D4, etc), so you won't accidentally shift the lever when you don't have the brakes on and go rolling.
If the sound is coming from the inside, then it has nothing to do with the calipers.

You can possibility even clean the Throttle plate yourself, all you need is a towel & some carburetor cleaner, take off the air intake(that long fat black tube with the box on the end) & you should see a plate inside the Throttle itself..that's the throttle plate...clean one side...push the plate in & clean as much as you can of the other side. Just make sure no carb cleaner goes into the throttle itself. (Don't soak the throttle with cleaner..just spray it in the towel & wipe.).

Hello, I know this post was from a long time ago but I have a solution to the problem. I have an automatic 2004 honda civic DX and the brake makes the same "clicking" noise when applying pressure. you can almost feel it in the peddal when the noise occurs. I once had the same clicking noise in my clutch of a 2006 accord. The solution to that click was the replacement of the clutch master cylinder. A clutch master cylinder and brake master cylinder function very much alike. I replaced the brake master cylinder and the noise is gone. Replace the brake master cylinder and it will fix your issue. Make sure you keep up on your fluids!
