Default Brake Lights

My brake lights dont come on for the beginnning of the day, but after awhile of driving, towards the end of the day, my brake lights will start working again. I asked my friend and he said it might be the fuses, but when I brought it to the mechanic, he said it was likely that it was the brake light switch that was the problem, but at the moment, the lights were working, so he sent me home, I was wondering what might be the problem, would it be the brake light switch or something else? Im hoping to fix it myself because Im a little low on cash right now.

brake light switch like your mechanic man said... or some wiring might be getting grounded somewhere from the fuse to the lights themselves.
