Brake Pads
I am attempting to change my brake pads. 2005 Civic LX Sedan. I jacked the front end up. Put jack stands under the vehicle. Took the tires off and and removed the 14mm bolt on the calipers near the bottom. There was another bolt near the bottom with a boot but I didn't think I needed to remove that one. Anyhow, I can not get the caliper to rotate up to off the rotar to remove the shims and pads. I did not want to use too much force and break something. Am I doing this correctly? Should I just beat the capilper up, should I loosen the top bolt first? Any suggestions are welcomed. I just don't want to break something that costs me more in the long wrong. Thanks.

You may need to push the piston back a little so you have clearance to swing the caliper out. Either put a big C clamp between the outer pad and the back of the cylinder, or pry between the outer pad and the two fork part of the caliper. You can push the piston back all the way (skipping briefly to step 10) this way in preparation to install the new pads. It is important to check that the reservoir on the master cylinder doesn't overflow.
