Hello new here. I have a 98 civic lx. I replaced the front pads when ready to test I started the car a pumped the pedal I right away noticed that the pedal stayed soft and it would go really low. This has never happened to me as I have replaced the pad many times before. I went ahead and bled the both sides and got no results. The car brakes but the pedal is spongy. Any ideas or suggestions? Thank you

 

While i am not the best with brakes, it could be your master cylinder or a leak somewhere in the system.

 

I have been told by multiple people that it could be the master cylinder. I'm going to change it and go from there. I guess with 220k it might be time for a new one. It was just strange that from changing pads the cylinder went bad. I'll also check for leaks. I'll advise my results. Thanks. For taking the time to read my post.

 

I just keep seeing things about air in the system if the brakes feel spongy. Are you bleeding them in the proper order? Bleeding the brakes is most effective if you have two people, or those bleeder bolts that have a check valve in them to prevent air from getting back into the caliper(s) while you are pumping.

However, if your master cylinder is leaking, the lost fluid is being replaced by air, causing the mushy brake pedal.
