Default broken car alarm

i have just bought a 1997 honda civic (enginve 15 vtec)\r\nand when trying to lock the car using the remotes nothing works.
i also found an additional key in the glove box and when turned the alarm went off. later i was informed that this is the panic alarm....
other then this nothing works
the batteries of the remotes have been changed and checkeb by a technician... he told me that they are emmitting signals...
the alarm is an original honda security alarm system made in 1996..
ps. the original car stereo has been removed and replaced with a pioneer ( dont know if the stereo was part of the alarm system)...

pls help.... tnx

I think it was both the 96 and 97 where the receiver for the radio signals from the remote was also part of the stock radio. Some installers hid the stock radio under the dash so the alarm / locks will still work when using an aftermarket radio for music. That appears to not be the case with your car.
