Default Broken Volume Control ****

I bought a used '96 Civic and im very happy with it, but there's a problem with the volume control ****. When i try to increase the volume, it goes down , and when i decrease the volume, it might go up or down. Sometimes, no matter which way i turn, it'll only go up and ill have the music blasting without being able to turn it down. I have to jiggle around with the **** for a long while until I get the sound the even close to where i want it to be. Is there any way to fix this problem? or do I have to resort to buying a new head unit.

for the cost just buy a new cd player.........

will be much beter and cheaper than messing with a old stock radio...
just my opinion tho....
and if your civic has keyless entry i think ya have to keep the factory radio behind the dash to keep the keyless entry... but if its aftermarket keyless entry it shouldnt be a problem...
