Burning smell from engine,(05 LX) intake just put on...
I had just put an intake on this past friday, AEM short Ram, and I have to say it sounds great.
After driving it for a while I have noticed a burning smell coming from the engine bay, smells more of a oil kinda smell, but I cant pinpoint it.
It stopped for a few days, on the way to school, I go up a pretty steep hill to get to the main road. I smelled it badly when the car was climbing up the hill. The car does NOT struggle up this hill at all I am usually one of the faster people to get up that hill, I guess b/c the car is new.
I looked at the Temp gauge, perfect temp, I even turned on the heat to get some hot air out and to smell the burning a lil more but by this time it was gone.
So please guys n gals help me out anyway you can, I have no idea what this is.
The ONLY thing I can think of is that its only has 670 miles on it and original oil, and it needs to be changed now.

i dont know, but i dont think it anything serious. now that you're getting your far broke in, it may be normal. my car makes a funny smell i notice after i start driving it, hell i dont know. but no prob.
Is the breather hose on the intake? Older ones have a hose from the valve cover that feeds back into the intake...if it fell off or is loose it maybe dripping oil on a hot part (not good) If it's that new you could take it in for a look see by the stealership. Warranties are nice when you have them.
Hey there, when I bought mine and had it put on for a while I would smell that to, ther eis nothing wrong with your car, it is just the intake working and starting out. Just like if you buy ceramic headers they smoke alittle and smells like a burning smell but because new thing getting used to all of that heat, good luck.
It could be excess oil going into your intake from the filter if you have one like the K&N. Also, sometimes the manufacturers will put a light coating of oil on the metal parts and it could just be the heat from the engine "cooking off" that coating of oil.
If you don't see any smoke while you are smelling that smell, I wouldn't be worry that much.
Did you start to smell that burning smell after the intake job, or before?
Brand new engine always smell somewhat like burning. It will go away in time. I work on piston aircraft engines costing $20000 to $40000 when new. They smell burnt, too, on initial runs.
