Busted ignition wire... replace spark plugs too?
About 5000 miles ago I replaced my spark plugs with bosch plat +2's. At the time I noticed that one of the ignition wires was hard to get out, but I didn't really think it would be an issue. My mistake! I started noticing my mileage slipping, and today I dropped by oreilly and picked up some ignition wires to install. During installation, the ignition wire I had an issue with previously broke, and I noticed that the contact point where it meets the plug as well as the top of the plug it attaches too was severely corroded- kinda like the + on the battery gets after awhile. I removed the plug, and it didn't really look like the part that is in the combustion chamber had anything wrong with it... the top was a little grey, but other than that it looked like I just bought it.
I was able to cleanly wipe the corrosion off the other end of the spark plug where the ignition wires connect to and install everything. None of my other plugs/wires had any build up or anything like described above. I'm thinking this is going to solve my fuel economy, but I'm wondering if I need to change out all the plugs again? I know it won't break the bank, but I was just curious what the knee jerk reaction was....
thanks!
